Future evolution of Tibetan software

For the Tibetan language to survive, it must be  reborn in a digital world.  Not because Tibetan texts must be published in digital form, but because Tibetan works simply must be published. Publishing today is thoroughly digital. Although paper remains the most efficient publishing medium, virtually all paper publications are initially created through digital methods such as word-processing applications and layout programs. The digitized text is then output onto various paper media. Publication straight to digital media, such as the world wide web and CD-ROM, is also rapidly becoming commonplace. Unless the Tibetan language is also digital, it will become obsolete.

Nitartha international is meeting this need by taking advantage of an historic maturation of operating system standards to develop fully functional Tibetan-language word processing programs. In addition to our Nitartha-Sambhota development program, Nitartha also is working to develop future standards for Tibetan software, and has implemented a long-range development program based on the international Unicode standard.  Future standards
