The Complete Tibetan Calendar
The Complete
Tibetan Calendar is produced in collaboration with Snow Lion
Publications and is available from Snow
Lion or a Nalandabodhi center.
It is beautifully illustrated and was designed
by The Dzogchen Ponlop
Rinpoche.
Uniquely, this calendar represents both of the main astrological traditions developed in Tibet, which are referred to as the Tsurluk and Phukluk systems. The calendar provides the Phukluk and Tsurluk date for each Gregorian day, as well as major North American and traditional Buddhist holidays. The Phukluk system was initially developed by Phukpa Lhündrub Gyatso (15th century CE) and is commonly used. The Tsurluk system, from which the astrological almanac information is drawn, was first developed by the Third Karmapa Rangjung Dorje (1284-1339), and continues to be actively developed today within the Karma Kagyü school of Tibetan Buddhism.
Each calendar day also provides rare Tibetan astrological information, which can be used as an "auspiciousness index" for that day by providing three different types of Tibetan astrological indicators of the appropriateness of the day for a particular type of activity:
- The daily element combination
- The daily great conjunction
- The occurrence of any Drubjor or Baden
The calendar is 12 x 24" when open.
